Obama & this immigration fiasco

President Barack Obama has been called the “deporter in chief”; since he has deported more illegal immigrants than any other president. When he ran for President, his platform agenda included immigration reform.

The Republicans realized that election (2008) that America wanted more tolerance and less racism, which they didn’t know before. They started looking into being “more inclusive” of other races. They took the ball and worked out an immigration reform bill.

Then they sat on it.

It is now 2014. So the President has finally said, “Hey. We need to do something about this promise I made 2 elections ago.” Not in those words, obviously.

And everyone’s getting worked up? Did you not realize this was coming… um…. SIX YEARS AGO? When he PROMISED it would happen?
reagan quote illegal immigrants
And these are people who ALREADY live and work here. You don’t want their tax money? Because they do want to pay taxes. And there’s stipulations. It’s not a free for all. It’s rhyme and reason. In fact, it’s the same rhyme & reason that all the other presidents (including your idol Ronald Reagan supported).

I hear people saying things like “it’s the law”. Yes, and that’s why Obama has deported so many undocumented immigrants. However, what about that pesky Slavery law? That got changed, right? And that law that women can’t vote? That was changed. Laws are not written in stone. They evolve, like we do.

And it’s not like he’s giving out citizenship, in his best Oprah voice. You get citizenship, you get citizenship, you get citizenship…. eeeevvveeerybooooddy gets citizenship! But if you’ve been here for 5 years, have children that were born here, and you’re paying your own way into a route to stay here while also paying taxes. Paying into a social security that you will never collect from. Supporting businesses in your community. All the things a citizen does. These are people that are already contributing to our fine nation, and will continue to do so.

Yes, you read that right. They pay taxes. Not just taxes on the goods they buy (sales tax and property tax), but also income tax. Yes, they are undocumented immigrants. To work in this country, they may have used a fake social security number. That means, they paid income taxes using that SSN. They paid money into a social security system that they will never get any benefit from. They just donated to your & my social security fund. Well, maybe not mine; it may run dry before I get there. Oh, I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least mention the other way that they can (& do) pay taxes – an Individual Tax ID Number (ITIN). I barely know how to do my own taxes, so I can’t really explain how all that works. If you’re really interested, though, you’ll find a way to research it!

There are 11 million undocumented people living here in these United States. This action would apply to about 4.4 million of them. There’s no way to actually find and deport the 11 million. Do you have any idea how much that would cost?!

Related Article (pic links to article), explains how prior to the 1920s, there was no real process to enter the US. So, all those that came over here were essentially the same as these undocumented immigrants.

think like a man?

So, one of my relatives on Facebook posted this picture last week. It pissed me off to no end. Maybe irrationally? But it just did. So, I’m here venting about it. If I put it down in words, then I’ll be able to move past it. This is the offending picture she posted:

think like a man

I was so irritated. What the hell?

Think like a man? What’s wrong with thinking like myself. An intelligent, creative, solution-minded woman.

No, I’m happy to think like a woman.

And to those young girls that are tomboys, dress however you want. To those transgender out there, look how you feel comfortable.

Definition of a feminist

“If you believe that men and women have equal rights, if someone asks if you’re a feminist, you have to say yes.”  “Because that is how words work.”

Geez, I love Aziz Ansari. He’s hilarious, and he just gets it.

My heart’s in Texas

I just had the best week in TX. You guys, I have a baby niece (have I mentioned that?). Anyway, she’s my heart. Good God, I just love her so much! Words cannot describe how precious and lovely this little child is. She’s just the greatest person who’s come into my life, and I’m so thankful. So thankful.

Anyway, now I’m just sitting here at the airport, waiting for my flight, trying not to start crying because I miss her so much already.

Diego at the DIA

I went to the DIA on Friday for the first time. I’ve been wanting to go for the year & a half that I’ve been in Detroit. (Did I mention I live in Detroit now?)

Anyway, I finally go to go. And guess what I discovered?!?!?!

THERE ARE 2 HUGE DIEGO RIVERA MURALS THERE!!!

Apparently, everyone knew this. Except for me. It took going in, taking a map, scanning through what was there to figure which direction I was going in, and gasping when I saw the “Rivera Court” on the map!!! I went back up to the ticketing counter, and said “What is this? This Rivera Court. Do you mean Diego Rivera?”, and he just smiled & replied yes, that there were murals done by Rivera there. So, I *calmly* walked there. As fast as I could!

It was amazing. So awesome. I want to go back & stare at it every day now.

Apparently, it took him only 11 months to complete it. I’m so in awe.

Tiny Habits w/ Dr. BJ Fogg

All my life, there’s something I’ve never been able to do. I’ve tried for decades, but always failed.

Take a daily vitamin.

It sounds so simple. You just pop a daily vitamin everyday. But every other year, I find myself throwing out an expired bottle of vitamins, swearing to myself that I’ll take them next time. So, I buy a new bottle, determined to take them. Only to throw out the almost full expired bottle the next year.

Earlier this year, I discovered I was deficient in B-12. I had asked my doc to specifically test my blood for this particular vitamin, as I’m always exhausted. I’ll write more about my B-12 later, but since I was able to see such a dramatic difference in my quality of life by taking the B-12 daily, I wanted to start taking my multivitamin daily too. I just couldn’t bring myself to complete that task though!

A work colleague brought up this Stanford professor & this program. It’s actually an online event that you can join. I did join it, but failed to follow through on the simple emails you send. At any rate, I did read through the program & followed it to a T.

Because of his Tiny Habits program, I was finally able to do it. I’ve just finished a bottle of my Women’s daily multivitamin. My first bottle ever to finish! Huzzah!

You can read about the Tiny Habits program here. I would suggest reading it & joining his online event. It’ll change your life as it did mine. Whether you want to figure out a way to keep your inbox clear, or want to remember to floss at night. Whatever. Work or personal. It’ll change your life. For real.bjfogg

But essentially, there are 3 points:
– an anchor
– the new behavior
– a reward

The anchor is something you do already. Each night before I go to bed, there is something I do without fail; this is my anchor. I now add the new behavior to this anchor. So, each time I do my anchor, I add the new behavior. Then, you recognize (reward) the completion of this new behavior.

It’s so simple. Yet, I never could do it until I read through his program. Thank you, Dr. Fogg!
