Melanin in the sun

Well, I know I’m supposed to post on the OSU commencement ceremony that I went to, but there are no words to really describe it. I may post in detail about it (most likely) in a couple of weeks when it all sinks in. It was such an exciting day. Our fam’s “best girl” graduated & it was just very, very exciting.

We got there hours in advance so that we would get good seats. There were 7 of us, & we ended up in 5th row seats to see Bill Clinton speak. We would’ve been closer if there weren’t as many of us. But it was just perfect. I can’t tell you how awesome it was to see former Prez. Clinton speak. He’s just an amazing man. You can actually see the entire commencement ceremony streaming online (isn’t the internet GREAT!). You can fast forward to his speech, or watch the whole sha-bang. Whatev. No pressure. I will post on the ceremony itself & Clinton in the coming weeks, I promise.

We were in the sun for about 7 hours & I ended up sunburnt (along with my dad). I had put on sunscreen, but my nose sweats, & so the sunscreen on my nosey-nose sweated off, & now I look kinda like Rudolph. The tops of my cheeks are a lil pink too. Mr. T has been teasing me about it since he saw me Sunday night, but it’s all good.

So, I’m gonna leave you with a real conversation b/t me & my pops:

me: Pappa, here, put on some sunscreen before we go. We have to leave now. C’mon.
my dad: What?! No, we’re Indian. Indian ppl don’t need to wear that stuff, we don’t get sunburnt. You guys are such drama queens. [he does love calling us drama queens; I think he got that from my mom]
me: No, I’m serious. Do you want to get skin cancer? HUH? Is that what you want!?
my dad: Whatever. [he got that from me]
my sister: No, dad, she’s serious. We may not get sunburned in the traditional sense, or as much b/c we have more melanin. But we should still be careful.
my dad: Whatever. [again]

Fast forward about 8 hours, we come back to my sister’s apt. My nose is bright red & burnt, my cheeks are just slightly so. My DAD, on the other hand, is really burnt. Like, to a crisp. No, I’m not exaggerating. Do you think he’ll wear sunscreen next time? Eh.

UPDATE: Oh, & I forgot to mention that I “called-in sunburned” on Monday b/c of this. It’s just like calling-in sick; only you’re sunburnt instead.

I’m currently baking

Not “baking-baking”, as in pastries in the oven. Although I did make cupcakes last night. But honestly really truly baking myself. I’ve been up since 7 am & out in the glorious “77 degrees at 9 am sun”.

It is truly beautiful out here. Gorgeous. Sunny & gorgeous & warm. And beautiful. A change of scenery is always nice & very much appreciated. I’m not blogging b/c I’m enjoying my surroundings & the weather & my family.

Oh, did I tell you guys I’m in Phoenix? Beautiful, gorgeous, sunny PHOENIX! ~sigh~

My niece saw a black snake as we were walking to the bus-stop this morn. I wish I could post some pics, but I forgot the usb cord that connects my cam to Fernando.

Oh, did I tell y’all I finally picked a name for my new laptop? I ran the choices by my nieces & was secretly hoping that they also would like Fernando, & they DID!!! So, I’m happy to announce the name now. I said I liked it cause then he’ll have his own song, & I could call him Fern for short. I like when you have a long girl’s name (ie. Alexandra), & the shorter version is like a boy’s name (ie. Alex). Or, vice versa. The girls thought I should call him Ferny for short instead of Fern. So, I’ve concluded that it’s Fernando, short version will be Fern, & the affectionate nickname will be Ferny.

Growing up, we’ve all had our affectionate nicknames. I’ve had quite a few that I’ve been called, & some family members still call me by those names. Most call me by my proper (real) name, but I still have an aunt who calls me “Chuckee”, which was one of my nicknames.

aren’t rainbows purty?

Does anyone else go stand outside in the rain when it’s sunny looking for rainbows? Last Sat, we had one of those days here. I just finished working out, & it’d been rainy & grey all morn. Well, I was almost done, when I looked out the window & saw that it had become sunny. It was still raining, but in the beautiful sunshine. So, I finished up & hightailed it outta there. On my way out, the lady at the desk (they all know me so well in my town) saw me fixated on the windows of the door as I was headin towards it, & said to me “You’re going to look for the rainbow, aren’t you?”. I said “yup” (I’m a girl of few words. haha, ok, so I’m not, but when I’m focused on something I can be.) She said I needed to come back in & tell her what it was like before I actually left. So, I walked outside, & had to look around for it. I couldn’t find it anywhere. It took an 8 year old boy riding his bike through the parking lot to help me find it; “look over there”. So, I did.

It was a short stubby rainbow. Wide, but short. I’d never seen one like that before. I could see both ends of it, & the top of it was so low to the ground. Very cool. So, if it’s sunny & raining, high-tail it outside to see one of these babies, ‘kay? Cause no two are alike, & if you miss it, that’s it. There’s no instant replay on ‘em.

Then, this morning, I check my email, & my friend Jen sent me this awesome pic. Thanks, baby-doll! How cool is that?!? So, I’m sharing w/ y’all.

send in the pigs!

Hey y’all! I’ve decided I want to make a pig gallery from ppl who visit this bl*g. So, here’s the easiest way to do it.

Go to the pig drawing site, & create your pig.
Once you draw the pig & submit your drawing, it’ll give you a link to your pig.
Just copy/paste the link in the comments section of this post. Oh, & if you want to add a comment about your pig, do it there too!
I’ll take it from there!

Please, please, please do it! I never send out chain letters or memes or any craziness like that. So, you know I really want my own pig gallery when I post this. C’mon, you know you want to! If you do it, I’ll give you 5 points! Thanks!

Here’s what we’ve got in our pig gallery so far (click on each pic to enlarge):

ooouu, lookit me!!!

I’m so fresh & so clean-clean! I feel like I’m borne again! It’s like spring cleaning.

I literally spent close to 7 hours yesterday working on this. No, it shouldn’t have taken quite that long. And yes, I am quite proud of what I’ve done.

I’m going to eventually add a little more color to the borders & try to make the header at the top not be aligned to the right. But, this’ll probably take me through the summer. I hope y’all likey. I do.

Oh, & for those who may care (you know who you are!), the pic at the top is a sunset in Bermuda. I had also put in on my last template, but it’s more clear here. haha, clear-here, that rhymes! haha.

what a diff a day makes

OK, yesterday morn here in Cleveland, the sky was pitch black. Huge thunderstorm, raindrops the size of my fist! No, I’m not exaggerating. So, maybe my fists aren’t that huge, but that’s still a big raindrop. In the morning, I was making my coffee in the kitchen & I look out the kit window. The sun is coming up, the sky is bright, & the rays are shining down. Then, I walk out to the living room, & look out the window there. Pitch black, dark gray clouds rolling in. Very eerie. Cool, but eerie.

Then, in the afternoon, the skies opened up. The clouds drifted away. Pure sunshine. So bright it hurt your eyes. All over the ground were tree limbs that just weren’t strong enough to make it through the day. It was still windy out, but bright & windy. Sunny & 67 degrees for the rest of the daylight hours. 67 & SUNNY!!!

Well, this morning I woke up to 30 degrees & snow. Still windy, so the snow’s now coming at me sideways. As I drove up toward the lake (I work North of where I live), the snowflakes grew in size. At first, they were these teeny-tiny little specks coming at me super-fast. Going up 71, they got to the size of a half-dollar, & were now more fluttering around as my windshield hit them head-on. They stuck onto my windshield glass & melted away into nothing-ness. Oh, & they were so white & clean & fresh & new. Then, they were gone.

Well, now I’m told that near where I live, the snow’s coming down; an inch an hour. I was told we’re going to get 3 to 7 inches today. Here’s what the winter storm advisory online (below). Wild, huh?

The national weather service in cleveland has issued a lake effect snow advisory…which is in effect until 7 am est wednesday.

A wind advisory remains in effect until 6 pm est this afternoon.

Expect winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts at times of 45 to 50 mph to continue through this afternoon. the winds will slowly diminish through this evening and tonight.
