Clinton liaison for Israel & Palestine

Am I the only 1 who thinks that sending former US President Bill Clinton to motivate a treaty & peace between Israel & Palestine, is a likely solution?

He almost had them at the cusp of something back in 2000. No one has come close to what he’s been able to do in extreme foreign circumstances.

UPDATE (Nov. 21, 2012): I knew it! Well, I knew it’d take a Clinton! I just had the wrong Clinton pegged! I saw Hillary Clinton do her whirlwind tour yesterday, from Myanmar/Burma to Israel, Egypt, & the West Bank. AND NOW LOOK! CEASE FIRE. THANK YOU, Sec. Clinton.

bully the movie

There’s a new movie coming out, “Bully”.

It’s gotten an “R” rating by the Motion Picture Association of America, ONLY due to the usage of the “F-word” in this film. But the words used are those of children, ages 11-17, told to other children. There are much more violent & adult-themed movies given a rating of PG-13.

But this movie, one that should prob be shown in schools, one that is teaching our youth of the real consequences of bullying, has been given an “R” rating, & will not be seen by those who need to see it most.

These kids already know these words. Geez, I am shocked by how much kids know these days. I certainly did not use any type of bad words when I was a kid. I never saw a movie that had the “F-word” in it until I was 18; and my jaw dropped when I heard it b/c I was in a large public space & there it was, coming off a huge movie screen. But these kids today? They hear bad words & see questionable content everywhere. I don’t remember songs with bad words on the radio when I was a kid either. But I hear stuff on the radio now; & even when they attempt to bleep stuff, you know what they’re bleeping.

Anyway, I’ve signed this petition. It was started by a Katy Butler, a high-schooler in Ann Arbor, MI. I heard about this on the Ellen show today (it was a previous episode on my dvr); and I had to post about it. Katy has started this petition to change the rating to PG-13 so that this movie can be seen by those who need to see it most.

Pls sign this petition: MPAA: Don’t let the bullies win! Give ‘Bully’ a PG-13 instead of an R rating!

I didn’t realize it was still 1960

So, I already mentioned I’m pretty upset about stupid Prop 8 in Cali going through. I’d love to see someone put up a proposition to ban hetero marriage. No… that’d be preposterous, right?

Seriously, who’s to say that one union is legit simply b/c of the party’s pieces/parts?

“But what about the children?”

Really? So, it’s totally cool if Alex gets a sex change oppo, becomes Alexis, & marries a dude? Trust ppl, you’ll have a much harder time explaining that to your 5-yr old. & the kids don’t care. Every kid I’ve ever met totally understands, if 2 ppl love each other, they get married. They’re so idealistic, they don’t even know about the probs/conflicts a couple face.

It more acceptable to marry you cousin than for a same-sex marriage to take place. Uh…. that’s right ppl, I said marry your cousin. Seriously, though, it’s legal to marry your cousin in 26 states. There’s even a loophole in Vermont’s state government that allows DOGS to marry!

You know how we look back 100 or 200 years & say that it seems unreal that certain civil liberties didn’t exist then (like voting for some ppl)? I can’t help but be embarrassed for what our descendants are going to think of us deny civil liberties in 2008!

On June 2nd, 1958, Richard Loving & Mildred Jeter were married. 5 weeks later, they were arrested & then sentenced to a year in jail. Wanna know why? B/c interracial marriages were prohibited. Of course they appealed it. This idocity went on for 9 years before the US Supreme Court unanimously overturned it.

“… The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men. Marriage is one of the “basic civil rights of man,” fundamental to our very existence and survival … Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State.”

– Chief Justice Earl Warren, June 12, 1967

gay-interrcl-marriage

How is Prop 8 in Cali (or 102 in Arizona, or 2 in Florida) even really an issue that we are debating today? Hello, 2008, it’s 1960 on the phone for you.

In Arkansas, an LGBT person can’t even adopt a child. I’ve counted 17 states (you can double-check it, I got a headache counting) that don’t even recognize same-sex civil unions!!!

I’m not going to go on any further. B/c I’ll just blow a gasket. (Does anyone say that anymore? No? Just me? Whatev.)

So, I’ll leave y’all w/ a comment I once left to someone else’s comment saying that why can’t “they” just be happy w/ “civil unions”. You know why?

Cause there was never a top-ten hit that went,

♪♫♪♪ Goin to the Chapel, & we’re gonna get Civil-Unioned ♫♪♪”….

It’s still not the same thing. It would be the equivalent of telling “certain ppl” that they can ride on the same bus to the same destination, but they have to sit at the back of the bus.

You might argue: Why would they care? They still get to the same place.

B/c it’s saying that they’re different/lesser, & don’t deserve the idealism that “regular ppl” do.

The reason “regular” is in quotes is b/c I don’t believe that being straight is a “regular” trait. Maybe it’s a dominant trait (like having brown eyes, versus the recessive having blue eyes.). But that 2nd link shows that homosexuality has been around for eons, & they’ve even proven it exists naturally in animals.

thx all the ppls who’ve cared

The US Supreme Court granted a stay in the case of Troy Davis while they consider his appeal.

All that’s fair is that they hold a trial & listen to what the 7 of the 9 witnesses who recanted their statements said.

One of the ones that didn’t is the other suspect (Sylvester Coles).

And there’s been new evidence in the case, including 3 new witnesses who say that Coles confessed to them (or in 1 case, was bragging) about killing the officer.

Anyway, all I’m hoping for now is a fair trial so that I can believe in my Justice System.

Stay of execution granted for Troy Davis
Posted: Sep 23, 2008 05:22 PM
Updated: Sep 23, 2008 06:59 PM

JACKSON, GA (WTOC) – The US Supreme Court has granted a week-long stay of execution for Troy Anthony Davis just under two hours before he was scheduled to be put to death.

Davis is in the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia where family and supporters gathered to protest the scheduled execution.

Davis’ sister Martina Correia knows it’s a long road, but says they’re not giving up.

“We still have to get the Supreme Court to hear the case and hear the arguments but I know if they will take this case that one day my brother will be vindicated and walk free,” she said. “I just want to pray for the victim’s family. I know that they’re hurting and everything but Troy is not guilty of this crime. We dishonor Officer MacPhail by killing Troy and I think that the Supreme Court showed us today there’s something going on when we’re rushing to execute somebody before they even have an opportunity to review the case.”

Activist reverend Al Sharpton led Davis’ supporters in prayer after they found out about the stay.

Members of MacPhail’s family also issued a statement after the stay was issued.

The US Supreme Court will review Davis’ request for an appeal on September 29.

pls everyone, help good triumph!

Hey everyone,

I feel sick to my stomach. I opened up my email today & saw that Troy Davis’s execution has been scheduled for Tues evening @ 7 pm!! Please go to Amnesty International’s site & click on the link to sign the letter to Georgia’s Board of Pardon & Parole.

I can’t believe we are about to execute (EXECUTE!) a man that may be innocent. There has been SO MUCH doubt in his trial. I’ve posted about him since June of 2007, & I thought for sure the court would be fair. But alas….

Let’s go over the facts:

  • There was no physical evidence against Troy Davis.
  • The weapon used was never found.
  • The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony.
  • All but two of the state’s non-police witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony.
  • Many of these witnesses have stated that they were pressured or coerced by the police.
  • One of the witnesses who has not recanted is Sylvester Coles, the principle alternative suspect.
  • Nine individuals have signed affadavits implicating Sylvester Coles.
  • Troy Davis has never had a hearing in federal court on the reliability of the witness testimony used against him.

Ok, so remember the ppl who recanted their stories? Well, Abolish the Death Penalty has what they specifically said about it:

Darrell Collins:[The police] were telling me that I was an accessory to murder and that I would … go to jail for a long time and I would be lucky if I ever got out, especially because a police officer got killed…I was only sixteen and was so scared of going to jail.

Antoine Williams:After the officers talked to me, they gave me a statement and told me to sign it. I signed it. I did not read it because I cannot read … I was totally unsure whether he was the person who shot the officer. I felt pressured to point at him … I have no idea what the person who shot the officer looks like.

Jeffrey Sapp:The police came and talked to me and put a lot of pressure on me…. They wanted me to tell them that Troy confessed to me about killing that officer. The thing is, Troy never told me anything about it. I got tired of them harassing me …. I told them that Troy did it, but it wasn’t true.

Daniel Kinsman:[T]here was and is no doubt in my mind that the person who shot the officer had the gun in and was shooting with his left hand.” Davis is right-handed.

Shirley Riley:People on the streets were talking about Sylvester Coles being involved with killing the police officer, so one day I asked him if he was involved …. Sylvester told me he did shoot the officer.

Joseph Washington:I am positive that it was Red [Coles] who shot the police officer… [He] was wearing a white shirt…I had no idea that the shirt…was important because no one ever asked me…I would have testified to this but I was not asked by the state or by Troy’s lawyers.

Please, everyone, click on the pic below to go to Amnesty International’s site & read about him. I’d love for all of you to sign the letter for him, but I’d be happy if you just read about him & share it w/ someone (ANYone) else.

The letters need to be faxed, & I know from experience that sometimes these ppl turn off their fax machines when all these faxes start comin in. In that case, you can click HERE to go to the contact information page for the GA State Board of Pardons & Parole. You can email the Pardon Administration Unit for Restoration of Rights or Pardons at Pardon_Administration@pap.state.ga.us and/or Clemency_Information@pap.state.ga.us.

they’re KIDS

So you know how R. Kelly got off?

Yeah, that didn’t link to what you thought it was gonna link to, eh? You sick, sick ppls! 😉

Anyway, I have a couple thoughts on that.

1- they say one of the main factors is that the girl in the video didn’t testify. I’m wondering if anyone’s checked for any weird (& extreme) activity in her bank account since this case has arisen. I’m just sayin.

and deux- I think anyone who has that video on their computer should face some sort of child porn charges. Yes, that prob means a few of the ppl who come to this post googling this whole situation.

No, I haven’t seen the video. No, I have no plans to ever see the video. (And yes, I did just write that in a huffy-pretentious voice.)

UPDATE: Ok, I was gonna post a comment, but it turned really long, so I’m just adding it here as a radio edit.

It’s absolutely crazy. Kids are having sex at the age of like 12 in suburbs & even younger in inner cities. I’ve heard this from kids! It’s insane & outta control.

I’m so scared for our youth.

The other thing is, I think she was totally willing (as were other teenage girls). And they don’t regret it when they’re older. It’s a “cool thing”. And if they did regret it (doubtful), they would never testify against someone so famous that so many ppl love. Some crazy fans would try to stalk/hurt them if Kells ever went to jail.

I was listening to a radio show while in Chi-town one weekend, & there were a couple girls who called in bragging about having slept w/ him a decade ago when they were teens. Who knows if they were legit, or if they were making it up? But regardless, it was seen as a cool experience.

that’s how you slap a racist diva

How comes we don’t convict racists & bigots here in the US like they do in France?

They mean ill-will & harm to a particular group of ppl. How many ppl die here in the US b/c of their race, religion, gender (transgender), or sexual-orientation? How many are harmed or die, & it goes unreported? It’s sickening.

story:
Brigitte Bardot wrote a letter to (then) Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy. In the letter, she provoked discrimination and racial hatred; stating that Muslims are destroying France.

She wrote that France was “tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts.”

Her statements were also published in her foundation’s quarterly journal.

France has anti-racism laws that “prevent inciting hatred and discrimination on racial or religious or racial grounds”. Bardot has already been convicted four times for this in the past.

Evicted by the homeless

Ok, so maybe I do tend to exaggerate sometimes. Whatev.

Here’s the deallio. I was thinking of moving into a 2-bedroom place with someone, so I told mees* landlord that I’d be moving on out. I love my place, but just can’t afford to live there alone, so I’m moving in with someone so that I can afford to also pay for other stuff than just rent. (my landlord doesn’t allow pets, hence lookin for a new place).

[*mees is Irish for my. I figured since St. Patty’s day is upon us…]

Well, we were in a time crunch b/c we needed to find a place by next Friday. She had a backup plan, but we were really hoping to live together. I’d been searchin, but just couldn’t find a decent place.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch….
My landlord had made an appointment with this couple to show them my apt on Sat. But because of the snow-storm, they ended up canceling. They re-scheduled to Tuesday, but cancelled that as well b/c the woman had fell during the snow-storm & had what my landlord called a “medical emergency”. (In quotes, b/c I think he’s exaggerating).

Yesterday, b/c of the time crunch we’re under, my friend & I decide to forget about finding a new place together. She’s just gonna go with her back-up, & I’m gonna stay at my place. Maybe look for a new roommate to move in with me.

So, I call my landlord to tell him not to show the house, that I’m stayin. I figured it was FATE that no one got to see the place yet.

He pauses & sighs & then tells me that he feels that he should give these ppl 1st dibbs on my apt! I’m like, “WHAT!?!??”, can’t you just tell them that I’m staying so it’s not available anymore? He continues & says “Well, the thing is that they had to cancel b/c of the storm & then a medical emergency”. I didn’t think this was a valid reason, b/c I re-scheduled seeing a 2-bedroom, 2-bath (with a Jacuzzi!), & 2 car garage house b/c of the storm, & 2 hours before going to see it, the dude called me up & left me a voicemail not to bother b/c someone just signed a lease!

So, I figured that was acceptable Modus Operandi for landlordy-ppl.

He simply hems & haws some more, & eventually tells me that he never listed the place b/c he had set this up with this couple, & uh…. they’re HOMELESS!!!!

uh….. WHAT!?!??!!??

“Yeah,” he says, “I was talking to this couple & they were telling me that they were looking for a place, & I described the place that you have & that it was about to be available, & they said they DEFINITELY want it. They were just going to look at it first, but they said they definitely wanted to take it. They’re even willing to pay more rent for it than you pay now.”

Let me tell you, I just love that my landlord doesn’t care about credit checks. He doesn’t believe in them, he says, so he only does criminal history checks. Uh…. maybe that’s why I’m the only tenant he has that pays rent on time.

So, hopefully, soon I find out if these ppl are definitely gonna take my place. Once they see it to confirm with him. I do have a friend I’m going to move in with if they take it. My friend’s got like a 4-bedroom house, with 3 empty rooms (soon). So, I’ll live there.

B/c it’s just bad karma to hope that a homeless couple don’t get your apt.

Isn’t it?

heads of state

I’d written about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before. He had said then that he wouldn’t do Oli Stone’s doc b/c he wants nothing to do w/ the US b/c anything to do w/ the US relates to “the Great Satan”.

Sooooo…. um, isn’t Columbia University in the US? So, why’d he do that? You know what I really wanna know that I can’t seem find out? How much did they pay him to appear & speak?

You know what I mean? Seriously, even if you wanted Carrot Top to come to your school to speak, you’d have to pay him, & put him up in swanky digs & stuff. So, how much? And the students are ok w/ having contributed to his income?

Y’all remember the tasering that happened at John Kerry’s todo at the University of Florida last week? I mean, they freakin tasered him! He just didn’t agree w/ Kerry. I mean, his tuition & fees helped bring Kerry there, so he’s got a right to say what he wants. I think The Idea of Progress did a great post on it. Yes, he got carried away, & shoulda been removed b/c he was getting in the way of the others who also contributed & actually did want to hear what the Ker-ster had to say. But to TASER him; that’s just sickening. I’ve written about another tasering at a sunny school before too; & so y’all know I’m just pretty anti-tasering.

But the Columbia president paid Ahmadinejad to come to speak there, & then just bent him over & spanked him? If we’re going to taser anyone who is adamantly against whoever we pay to come speak at the school, shouldn’t that be consistent?

The kid paying tuition & fees gets tasered. The president who collects his income from the tuition & fees doesn’t. I’m not saying he shoulda got tasered. I’m saying the kid shouldn’t have.

I hate inconsistencies. Ahmadinejad saying he wants nothing to do w/ the US, then coming here to speak. Someone getting tasered for causing a scene at a lecture, & someone else being commended for it (even though he himself paid big money to the offender?). What’s up w/ all dat yo?!?!

Oh, yeah, & then Evo Morales spoke at Cooper Union on Monday, & said that capitalism is “the worst enemy of humanity”. He got thunderous applause from the 200 students that came to hear him speak. So, don’t tell me it has anything to do w/ denouncing our way of life. Maybe it’s just cause they’re such a hippie school.

Sidenote: don’t think I’m anti Evo, cause I’m not. I think it’s cool that a poor farmer w/ no “formal education” can become president. I put “formal education” in quotes not b/c I love quotes so much, but b/c I don’t think a person’s intelligence or common sense comes is relative to the level of his degree. There are so many ppl among us who may not have formal training, but may be smarter or more qualified than those with a doctoral degree. But that’s a post for another day. Or not (you know how lazy I can be about posting).
