just checking in

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven’t been posting. Have been really busy, plus there’s just stuff going on in my life that I can’t talk about. I know, why even mention it, right?

Here’s what I can tell you. I just got back from the Getty Center/Museum, & it is A-MAZE-ZING!!! I can’t even tell you. Well, ok, maybe I can (& I will), but not now. I just got back to my room, & I’m just across the street from the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre & the Kodak Theatre (yes, where the Academy Awards are).

But I have to go. I’ll have more to write later. Just wanted to check in, & let you guys know I’m still alive. I didn’t die in the 5 hour plane ride on the way here. Wait, should I not have said that until I complete the 5 hour plane ride back home? Well, whatev happens, happens.

I’ll send out a post on Tues just to let y’all know I didn’t just jinx myself. (I hope).

still on topic

Ok, so I had all intentions of posting my fantasy football question yesterday for everyone’s input.

But then I was sickened by what’s going on in Sudan & the Darfur region. Sickened. I don’t know what to do. It’s just horrible, & getting worse. I was going to post about that instead, but couldn’t even get actually make myself do it.

It’s just so sad that I sometimes think so much about it & my head hurts & all I can do is cry. B/c I can see them in my head. Helpless.

I do need to post about it though. I may tonight.

But in the meantime, I came across something else that was also disturbing. In a whole different spectrum of disturbance from the Darfur genocide. But it’s like apples & oranges. It’s still very disturbing also. You can scroll down to my ‘Evolution by Dove’ post & I’ve updated it to include the said annoyance.

Are you ready for some football?

So, the ppl who know me best, know that I’m such a hardcore football patron. Heeheehee. Ok, so that’s totally not true. But it was funny.

But every now & then, I do have football comments. Now, I think “real hardcore football ppl” should really NOT read my football posts. B/c in all seriousness, it’ll prob just piss you off that someone who knows absolutely nothing about a subject is posting as if she does. So, that’s my disclaimer. Don’t come bitchin to me when you get mad if you keep reading.

Ok, now for the actual post…

So, yahoo is always putting up certain “featured articles” on my home page that they think the mass Yahooing public might find interesting. They actually posted this about a week & a half ago, but what can I say, I’ve been busy.

The article was about the possible trade of Randy Moss. Now, most ppl I know would know that normally I don’t even know the names of football players (well, except Eagles players, b/c my bf talks about them). But I do know Moss well. How do I know him? Well, that’s not important, is it? Fine, fine, I’ll tell ya. I know Randy Moss b/c they mentioned him in an OutKast song. So, whatever, maybe I exaggerated when I said I knew him “well”.

So anyway, I know Randy Moss plays for someplace warm. I’m not exactly sure where, but it’s def someplace warm. And they’re thinking of trading him to New England. Or, maybe New England wants him & want to trade someone for him. Either way, I know New England is in the NE somewhere & is cold.

Now, in my football expertise-opine, I think that this trade wouldn’t work simply b/c Randy used to play for someplace cold, & he went to someplace warm. I’m pretty sure it was b/c his fingers were too cold up there. Football players can’t really wear gloves when they’re playing b/c, you know, they have to like grip the ball & stuff.

Therefore, this trade will not happen. That’s all. Stay tuned for my ‘fantasy football’ post coming up!

‘Evolution’ by Dove — Update at bottom

If you guys haven’t seen this video yet, you absolutely have to check it out. Just watch it really. And I have been talking about models & our perception of beauty lately, so it fits in.

You can either click on the YouTube player to view it, or go to Dove’s site, & click ‘play film’. There, you can also find more information about their ‘Campaign for Real Beauty’, & a discussion group.

I’ve watched the video about 5 times in the last 10 mins now.

Here are the credits for the video.

UPDATE: (10/24/2006 @ 4 pm)
Ok, so Nello’s back, & she posted a link that someone gave her on her website. This is just all kinds of CRAZY. Seriously. I mean, it makes me never want to look at another celebrity again. EVER. You know how they did that study that proved that monkeys like to see pics of the “celebrity monkey of their pack”?

Well, now that I see some of our celebs in their original photos, I feel sick. Not sick b/c they look horrible. No, they look fine. Normal, you might say. But the fact that we’ve been force-fed an image for years. Lied to, consciously misled. That makes me sick.

Go here to FluidEffect.com. Click on ‘Portfolio’, & ‘Agree’ to the terms. Then, back in the left menu, click on the ‘before/after’. And get ready for what you’re about to see.

I have to say, I do love the internet, & my blog, & my blog-buddies. I have really discovered so much in the last year.

finally!

Ok, so just to let you know. I haven’t been gone the last couple of days, I’ve been trying to figure out how to expand & collapse my sidebar.

And I’ve finally GOT IT!! Yea!

I know it’s not really a big deal; but it kinda is to me. I hate clutter, & it felt like there was so much clutter in my sidebar. But it’s all cleaned up now.

So, I can watch the shows I taped tonight now. Some of you know that I pretty much refuse to watch anything at it’s regularly scheduled time. I tape everything & watch it whenever I want. That way, I’m not at the mercy of da man.

So, now I love ‘Ugly Betty’ & my reg ‘GA’.

If you’re a GA fan (um, that’s Grey’s Anatomy), go over to my sidebar. Under the “Waste Time” area, there’s a blog written by the GA writers, as they blog about each show they’ve just written after it airs. I think it’s pretty sweet.

I think I’m gonna love me some Blogger Beta now that I’ve kinda gotten the hang of it, & figured out how to adjust things to how I want them. There’s more to come….

Peace out, yo.

belated b-day

Ok, so Looking for Sunshine has passed the 1 year mark. I know I should really keep track of these things. I honestly don’t even know how many posts I’ve done so far either. I guess I’ll check one day.

Anyway, I didn’t know what I’d do when I got to this point. I thought I’d switch up my design, but I’ve already done that. I like to “redecorate” every now & then. Keeps things fresh, ya hear.

But, I have come up w/ something that I do want to do now. I’m gonna switch over to this new blogger beta version.

Just as a warning to y’all, when I do switch, the ole blogger dudes & dudettes, you won’t be able to comment w/ your “blogger login”. You’ll have to click on “other” & then type in your name/id, & your blog url. I hope that’s cool w/ y’all.

Apparently, they’re working on that prob, & it may just be fixed by the time my lazy butt gets around to the switchin. Although, I might get bored & just do it too. I’ve been thinking seriously about it for the last week.

UPDATE: Ok, so until I figure out how to the pop-up commenting thingie, you have to click on the post title (in this case, “belated b-day”), then do your comment that way. Sorry.

UPDATE-1: So, I think I’m just super-sweet & smart now. Cause I seriously figured that out in like…um… 5 secs. Ok, not 5 secs, but in no serious time at all.

UPDATE 2: I’m obviously not as smart as I thought I was. Anyway, as some of you have seen, I’ve been modifying this blog all day long. So, I’ve either done a ton today, or nothing (in terms of work I was supposed to do). I’m not done yet. But I am going to pause for now. I’ll look more into it in the next 2 days. I just had to at least get my bloggy links on there so I wouldn’t miss reading everyone else’s blogs!

PhotoFriday: destruction

Viewer discretion advised!!! Please re-direct yourself to another site if you cannot handle extreme pics of car-crashes.

This is a pic of the destruction that was left behind from a major car pile-up accident that happened IN my living room last summer. Yes, folks, actually happened in my living room. I watched it all happen before mine very eyes. It was absolutely horrendous.

But let this serve as a warning to you all. This is what happens when ppl are talking on the phone, trying to turn up the radio, do the crossword puzzle, AND digging in their bag for their pretend microphone so they can sing along to the awesome song that’s on. Oh, you mean you don’t keep a pretend microphone in your car? It’s just me? Er, I mean, I don’t have one either. I’ve just heard. Yeah, that’s it.

But you guys do keep an extra water gun in your car for when ppl annoy you, or if you get bored & wanna do a “water drive-by”, right? Oh, well … me neither then.

Don’t forget to click ici pour voir les images de plus de photofriday. ‘Kay?

Notice anything new about me?

So, I saw this over at aquababie’s site. And I want in on this too. Spread the word, y’all. I think it’d be really cool if every single site we all went to for the whole month of October was PINK!!!

Click on the pic to link to the “Pink for October” site. WOW! Say that 5 times fast!

Also, I created my own button using the image & font type from their site so to keep the integrity & consitency of their design elements. I’m so proud of myself.

I’ve posted it at the top of my sidebar. If you like the button I put together & want it for your blog’s sidebar, I’d be happy to email the code so that you can copy/paste it into your template. Just trying to spread the love. And awareness. Peace out, yo.

House of Galliano

Speaking of models & fashion. Let me say that I love John Galliano’s work. I like it cause it’s different, but not all so avant-garde that it gives me a headache. To me, he’s like the “Frank Gehry” of fashion. He creates interesting shapes & patterns. He has large obtrusive structure to his clothes. His pieces command attention.

I don’t care if you like his stuff or not. You’ll def look at it. Either cause you think it’s cool. Or, b/c it’s like a train wreck to you, & you just can’t look away. Either way, you’re def looking.

I heard a lot of smack for the dress he did that Charlize Theron wore to the Oscars last year. You know, with the big black bow on the shoulder? Anyway, I liked it. I thought it had a bit of pizzazz for a normally boring ole show. He did the dress for Dior, & spiced things up for them a lil.

And let me tell you, I think it’s fine for someone to wear something that’s a bit “out there” or “flamboyant” or even crazy if they feel like it. And God knows, we’ve all felt like it before. I remember when I was in college, I used to have a “clash day” every now & then. I could wear whatever I wanted out of my closet, so long as it totally clashed. I mean, it had to give someone a headache if they looked at me too long. I usually went with these green & navy checkered pants with a conflicting top. My other fave was these blue, yellow, & tan plaid pants (I called them my “golf pants”*).

Anyway, my point is that all the designers have been showcasing what they’ve been up to, & last Sat, the 7th, John Galliano showed his stuff too. This post is peppered w/ pics from his 2007 Spring collection. And isn’t he creative? I love it! It’s all normal stuff that I would love to wear. Nothing too severe. But he adds in the boldness with accessories, in this collection, hats & shoes. I’m not showing the shoes so much, b/c I didn’t really care for them.

*um, should I mention that I’ve never gone golfing before in my life? Although I’ve put-putted once. Maybe that counts. But not for years after I used to wear the golf pants. Also, ironically, I enjoyed wearing the golf pants to go “moonrock bowling”.

Update 3/1/2011: Galliano’s rant

is this really attractive? –Update at bottom (10/11)

Seriously ppl, is this pretty? This is a pic of a model taken at the Guy Laroche fashion show in Paris yesterday (Sat., Oct. 7th, 2006).

The problem is that little girls see this & think they’re fat. Oprah did a show w/ the mothers of 2 little girls. One was 3 (THREE!!!), & the other 5 years old. Both were dieting b/c they thought they were fat. The mothers were educated, upper-middle class women who really should know better than to stress looks to such impressionable young children.

Is that extreme? Yes. But look at the extreme that makes them that way. Also, this particular model is lucky if that’s her real hair. Although, she should appreciate it while it lasts, b/c it prob won’t much longer.

Even her face looks sunken in. I don’t know if she does coke, but she certainly looks like it to me. And her posture sucks.

The prob is the word itself. When in fashion, it should be taken into context.
Model:
1. a person or thing that serves as a subject for an artist, sculptor, writer, etc.
2. a person whose profession is posing for artists or photographers.
3. a person employed to wear clothing or pose with a product for purposes of display and advertising.

But unfortunately, sometimes ppl (esp impressionable young girls & boys) mix it up w/ it’s other meanings; namely,
Model:
1. a standard or example for imitation or comparison.

I know this is not the most important thing in the world. But it is troublesome none the less.

UPDATE: Ok, so I haven’t posted here or read my reg blogs in a while. Well, I was catching up on the blogs that I did used to read daily, & found something Vi had posted a week ago. You have to read it. It is very interesting. We do seem to need extremes of any kind to get us talking about stuff, huh? Or else maybe we just don’t notice?
