I have more to say

There’s so much I want to write, so much that’s happened & on my mind. Unfortunately, I’ve had like NO time. I still haven’t watched the last 2 Grey’s Anatomy’s that are waiting for me at home yet.

So, hopefully, I’ll be a postin machine this weekend. Also, below you’ll see my PhotoFriday #12 submission. Where’s PhotoFriday #11 you ask? Um, I haven’t posted it yet. I have it (the pic), & there’s a huge commentary that goes along w/ it. But it’s only in my head right now, cause I didn’t have time to write it out. So, I’m gonna do it, & sneak it in the middle of #10 & #12, but I’ll let y’all know when it happens. ‘Kay? Cool. Lata-gata.

I’m currently baking

Not “baking-baking”, as in pastries in the oven. Although I did make cupcakes last night. But honestly really truly baking myself. I’ve been up since 7 am & out in the glorious “77 degrees at 9 am sun”.

It is truly beautiful out here. Gorgeous. Sunny & gorgeous & warm. And beautiful. A change of scenery is always nice & very much appreciated. I’m not blogging b/c I’m enjoying my surroundings & the weather & my family.

Oh, did I tell you guys I’m in Phoenix? Beautiful, gorgeous, sunny PHOENIX! ~sigh~

My niece saw a black snake as we were walking to the bus-stop this morn. I wish I could post some pics, but I forgot the usb cord that connects my cam to Fernando.

Oh, did I tell y’all I finally picked a name for my new laptop? I ran the choices by my nieces & was secretly hoping that they also would like Fernando, & they DID!!! So, I’m happy to announce the name now. I said I liked it cause then he’ll have his own song, & I could call him Fern for short. I like when you have a long girl’s name (ie. Alexandra), & the shorter version is like a boy’s name (ie. Alex). Or, vice versa. The girls thought I should call him Ferny for short instead of Fern. So, I’ve concluded that it’s Fernando, short version will be Fern, & the affectionate nickname will be Ferny.

Growing up, we’ve all had our affectionate nicknames. I’ve had quite a few that I’ve been called, & some family members still call me by those names. Most call me by my proper (real) name, but I still have an aunt who calls me “Chuckee”, which was one of my nicknames.

PhotoFriday #10: bright

Hey guys. So, I’m incredibly super-busy. I have lots to say, but no time. Plus, I still haven’t posted my PhotoFriday submission. So, here’s my submission for ‘bright’. It was taken at Niagara Falls this past Memorial Day weekend. It was taken in ‘Night’ mode, w/ a slower than normal shutter speed.

I think it looks pretty sweet.
To see other PhotoFriday entries, you know what to do.

Oh, & btw, I name all my submissions, & I don’t think I ever tell you guys what they’re called. This one, I call “brght nght lght”. Cool, huh? Yeah, I know.

sharing fake plastic love

I’ve never even attempted to fill in the profile thingie on this Blogger. I really don’t even have time for that; b/c the music I listen to is so incredibly eclectic. It would prob take up a ton of space. I literally listen to just about every type/genre of music (well, except country).

I listen to what I like. If it affects me or moves me in a way, I like it. There’s no rhyme or reason to it, “the heart wants what it wants”. There are times when I just want to listen to females, & I listen to a lot of Tori, Sarah, Fiona, Belly. I get in my Madonna moods. Yes, folks, say what you will, but sometimes when you’re driving down I-71 w/ 2 hours of highway ahead of you, on your way to pick up your sister*, rolling down your windows & singing along to some ole 80s Madonna really gets you through the day.

I was listening to a lot of hip hop/r&b before. I’ve always loved Mary J. Blige, India.Arie, & Outkast. There were a lot of really great beats & songs coming out of the hip hop community for a while. One great jam after another. But lately, I haven’t heard anything worthwhile or intoxicating from them.

I was listening to classical music a lot this summer. Mostly Tchaikovsky.

I work in an area where there’s a lot of college-age kids. They keep talking about some band called “Fall Out Boy”, or at least they did for a while. A lot. Now, I haven’t really heard anything by them, & if they really were all that, I’m sure I would’ve by now. Regardless, I only mention them b/c I was flipping through a rack of cds this weekend trying to come , & I stumbled across a whole row of these Fall Out Boy cds. I mean, there were like 5 or 6 of them. Aren’t they new? How do they have more cds out than bands who’ve been out for a decade or two. It reminds me of those writers who churn out a “novel” once a year, every year. I mean, Holy mass-produced music, Batman!

Anyway, the reason I’m even writing about this, is that rock musicians have really been bringin the good music lately. I can’t get enough of that “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. Yes, I think of Denny when I hear it, & sometimes it does bring a tear to my eye. Shonda, I can’t believe you KILLED Denny Duquette!!! How could you?!? Well, actually, I guess I can believe it. I mean, you hired someone just to kill off the famous violinist that was Burke’s hero, you allowed Annie to be killed off (although, I agreed w/ that one; if you allow a tumor to grow for a year w/out doing anything about it, you need to pay the piper). OH, & you killed off the cute bomb-squad dude that I really was hoping might become a recurring character. All that tension b/t him & Meredith, that could’ve turned into something. C’mon, you have to admit, you wrote in a lot of tension there. Um, and he was cute. Oh, speaking of that bomb epi, does anyone know the name of that haunting song they played as they were wheeling the body w/ the bomb in it to a diff OR? (It’s one of these songs, but I’d have to find a way to listen to clips of them to find out which one). I really loved that song, & they usually list the songs they play on each epi on their website, but I couldn’t find it.

Sorry, back to my point (again, the one I meant to get to in the last para, but didn’t). Since I have this new car w/ the cd playa, I put in a cd, & was listening to Radiohead this morn on my way into work. I remember when I was working at Ray’s in college; one night I got off work, & joined a table full of ppl. I sat down next to a girl (that I didn’t know) & she was listening to a portable cd player (it was the 90s, we didn’t know what mp3’s were yet), & had earphones in her ears. I smiled at her, we introduced ourselves to each other, & I asked her what she was listening to. She said it was this new band called Coldplay; & if I liked Radiohead, I would love them. So, being a huge Radiohead fan, I took her earphones & gave ‘em a whirl. To this day, Coldplay’s ok, but they ain’t got nuthin on my Radiohead. Yes, I know Thom Yorke’s doin a solo album, but I love my Radiohead.

If you like the Bends, get the Clueless soundtrack. No, I’m not kidding. The Clueless soundtrack. There’s this acoustic version of “Fake Plastic Trees” on there. If you play it at just the right volume, sing along, & let it overcome you; then you’ll get goose-bumps. Seriously. You will.

So, on my way into work, I drive through the ghetto. No, I’m not kidding, I really do drive through a ghetto. I don’t necessarily have to, but it’s quicker so I do. I’m talking drug-dealin, drive-by-shootin, all in the middle of the day, ghetto. So, I drove through the ghetto on my way into work this morn. Normally, I don’t like to play my music at a loud volume when I’m in town b/c I don’t like it when other ppl force their music on me, & I don’t want to be one of those ppl. Also, if my music has bad words, I don’t want to be responsible for lil kids hearing it. So, I’ll blast it on the highway, but not in town on local roads. But this morn, I felt the need to share my fake plastic love w/ the punks on the street. That is def a song that songs incredible acoustic, but I would love to one day hear it w/ a full orchestra. That would seriously give me the chills.

*BTW, I will no longer be driving down I-71 to pick her up from OSU, b/c she now has her VERY OWN CAR!!

Ernesto, fun new toys, & my hair

Ok, so here’s the thing. I’ve got lots to tell. Today’s Friday, which means PhotoFriday, but I’ll just have to post a PhotoFriday pic sometime this weekend.

I got my new laptop. It’s cool, & new, & just the greatest thing EV-A. I love it. I haven’t named it yet, & am taking suggestions. I am leaning towards naming it a boy’s name. We name all nice things girls’ names, but not boy’s. Like ships, cars, all that stuff. So, I’m leaning towards a boy’s name. And we all remember how sexy a name I thought Ernesto was when that hurricane was comin round. Oh, wait, did I not share all that w/ y’all? Yeah, I just looked through my emails & saw that I didn’t. I’d just emailed my thoughts on the rainy season, & Ernesto w/ my girls. I’m not gonna post what everyone had to say about Ernesto here. Eh, what the hey, I might as well. Here’s what my girls had to say in response to one of my emails I sent around where, at the end I mention how sexy Ernesto sounds.

Now that I’m thinking about sexy Ernesto, I’ve forgotten about the cold and rain. Oh the things he could do to me. Excuse me for a bit. :D haha
–sparks

Ernesto does sound sexy…Everytime I hear a newsperson say it (or everytime I read it) I think of a swarthy, dark, tall, handsome man with chocolate brown eyes and wavy black hair. Very Harlequin romance picture in my head. Unfortunately, like most sexy men, he will do a lot of damage. :-)
–urban cowgirl

So, anyway, I want to name my laptop a boy’s name. Not Ernesto. Maybe something equally ‘cabana-boy’-like; def something exotic & unusual. Any thoughts? Keep in mind that he’s very powerful (my laptop, not Ernesto or any assorted cabana-boy). He’s got a hundred gig memory so I can store all my junk (ie pics, music, & videos), & a centrino duo processor. I have no idea what that’s for, but both of my sisters said I need it to do what I do, so it’s what I have now. So, again, we’re lookin for a name! Please help.

And, last night, I drove down to Akron with my dad & BOUGHT A CAR!!! Yes, a brand, spankin new car. A new car that’s currently sittin pretty in my driveway right now, b/c I can’t drive it until I go see Nikolina tomorrow & get it added onto my insurance. It’s black. BUT, it’s not just black. It’s black w/ teeny-tiny flecks/specks of blue & purple mixed into the black paint, so it looks really metallic & sharp! I love it! It’s a 2007 Corolla LE, & it’s got a 6-disc changer.

Do I need a 6-disc changer? No. I really don’t. I explained to the car-dude that what I really need is a single disc player that plays both audio cds & mp3 cds. But he said that’s just not available on my car model. Whatev. I’ll deal w/ what I’ve got.

And, even more NEWS!!! I’m going rock-climbing in AZ for my beautiful, cute little (well, she’s not so little anymore really) niece’s birthday. I can’t wait to go! I leave next week & will be there for a week. Ok, more later. Can I just say that I’m really very excited about everything.

Oh, & there’s some mediocre news too…
I got my hairs all cut last weekend. I went in & asked for just an inch off at most. I told the chickee that I wanted to keep my length, but I really the split ends cut off. And I wasn’t delusional, I knew I had split ends that needed to go. I missed a hair cut appointment entirely in b/t now & my last cut. PLUS, I’d done some serious damage to my hair by straightening it during this really humid summer. So, I told her to do what she had to, but no more than an inch off the length. Well, she cut it, it looked a little short, but I thought it was just me not being used to having my hair cut. I just had it pulled back after b/c I was going straight to go work out & shower after that. After all that, I let my hair down. And was shocked. SHOCKED! I showed my sister (who’s visiting home from school), & she confirmed that the chickee had to have taken at least 2 or 3 inches off.

I was pretty pissed. I’m still a little irratated. I mean, it still looks cute. (Seriously, I don’t know how, w/ a face like this, any hair wouldn’t look cute). But I was pissed that I was told one thing & something else was done. You know? I don’t like being lied to. I feel betrayed. It wouldn’t be so bad if I knew what was gonna happen.

You know, it’s like when you eat something salty when you’re expecting something sweet. Or, a few weekends ago, me & my 2 sisters went to Trader Joe’s & I found a bag of the salted pb-filled pretzel nuggets I love. They’re usually out, but someone had picked up a bag, & then dropped it off in the frozen food aisle cause they prob decided against it. So, in the car, on the way to our next shopping destination, I asked my sis to open the bag of pretzels so we could have some. She put one in her mouth, & was grossed out cause there was something gooey inside. She didn’t know they were filled w/ pb. It’s like that.

Anyway, my hair was like that. If I knew she was going to cut off that much, it wouldn’t have bothered me as much. Just let me know.

PhotoFriday #9: boy

As many of you know, I am an aunt. I make a super-great aunt at that. I love all my nieces & nephews; & I love them all equally. No, really, I do. You know how sometimes you get mad at a fam member? Well, I still love my kids. They shouldn’t have to suffer, or feel neglected just b/c you’re mad at their mom or dad. I adore them, really.

I guess I really feel this way about almost all children. Except the punks; I wanna smack them upside the head, & their little ‘rents too cause they didn’t do a good job raising them. But I do feel a connection to all kids. Like once I was at the library, & I saw this (middle-aged, creepy) guy approach a little (about 5 year old) kid. I knew the guy wasn’t related, so I just hung around the area so he wouldn’t try to get too close to the kid (who was just playing in the kids section by himself). The children’s section librarian saw me standing there & gave me a questioning look to see if I needed any help, & I motioned toward the creepy-guy. She went up to the kid, & asked him where his mom was, & then took his hand & went off to find her together. So, I felt like I could leave then. I also get mad when I see lil kids in cars w/ no car-seat, or older (but still lil) kids in the front seat w/ no seat belt. Aaauuugghhh! :shakes fist at parents allowing this:

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. As you all know by now, I’m pretty protective of puttin up personal/private pics up here online for all the internets to see. BUT, I remembered that I had a pic of 2 of my nephews goofing off when we went for a walk one day. I was watching these two lil cuties that day, & man, were they itching to go out. I did let them go on the jungle gym & swings for a little bit, but it was hot, & I was too scared that they’d get all dehydrated. I’m a huge scaredy-cat, really.

So, it got to be late-afternoon, & it was cooling off, & not as humid, so the boys jumped at the chance of gettin to go out of the house. We went for a walk, but I told them they had to wear their hats to shield/protect them from a sun just a lil. See? I told you, I’m just so paranoid & scared of so much stuff.

So, they were like; “You want us to wear our hats? How about like this, is this all right? Can we wear them like this?” All while giggling & being silly. They’re so cute. Of course, I was like; “[gasp], OH NO, you’re gonna trip & fall, you two are scaring me, you have to watch where you’re going”. So, of course they stopped goofing off, & wore them on there heads after. But they are so cute. Oh, & they fit this week’s PhotoFriday category: “boy”. Here’s the pic I snapped of them:You can see other boys by clicking here to see everyone else’s PhotoFriday submission. Have a great Friday, y’all!!!

what’s on your lap?

Hi y’all. Miss me? I know I’ve been gone for a while; just had a lot going on, & couldn’t really write about any of it. It’s funny, out of all my friends, there’s two of us who’ve started blog-sites. And both of us are the most reclusive ppl you’ll ever meet. The other one used to post a bunch, but now it’s once a month or so. I’ll be posting more now. Well, not now-now, but soon. And remember last December, when I only posted once during the whole entire month? Well, that prob won’t happen this year. I am just so super-busy in the fall/winter season, so I was totally ambushed, & didn’t have a really good internet connection, so I just didn’t post that much.

But, I’m waiting for a call… You see, I just BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP!!!! I am just so bouncing off the walls about this. It’s super-cool, & has a dvd-burner, so I can make my OWN MOOOO-VIES.* Yes, you heard me right. My OWN movies, made by ME! Cool, huh? I KNOW! Oh, man, I absolutely cannot wait!!!

So, anyway, I’m waiting for my laptop to call me. You see, the store didn’t have any in stock of the puppy I wanted, so I had to special order it. And it’s gonna call me when it’s here & ready to be picked up. Just like having a kid, I think. I’m gonna consider this my training. I can’t believe how crazy I’m going waiting for it to call! I suspect it’ll be the same when my kid’s in high school at some punk’s house for a bonfire party, & I’m sitting at home waitin for the call to finally go pick him/her up. It’s prob gonna feel exactly the same as this anxiousness.

*um, it occurs to me that I always say mooo-vies, but most ppl don’t really know why I say it that way. (I do say a lot of things differently). So, I’m gonna let y’all in on exactly how corny I am. My nephew went through a phase where he would make up just a TON of jokes. It all started with this one joke:
Q: Why did the cow cross the road?
A: To get to the mooo-vies. Get it? Mooooooo-vies? Get it? Get it? Mooooooooo-vies!

You see, you have to add the “get it?, get it?” to the end. Well, it only escalated from there. Next thing you knew, if we were talking about our sister, lilies, he would be like:
“Why did lilies cross the road?”
“To get to the mooo-vies. Get it? Mooooooo-vies? Get it? Get it? Mooooooooo-vies!”

Then, we may be talking about what the kids want to eat for lunch & someone will say ‘chicken nuggets’, & next thing you know, you’re hearing his cutie lil voice question:
“Why did the chicken nuggets cross the road?”
“To get to the mooo-vies. Get it? Mooooooo-vies? Get it? Get it? Mooooooooo-vies!”

So, ever since then, regular movies have failed to exist, & it’s always been mooooo-vies.

PhotoFriday #8: silver

Ok, so last Friday’s (I know I’m really late, I’m sorry, but betta late than never, eh?) PhotoFriday thingie was “Silver”. Well, as my ppl know, I love me some Frank Gehry. When I was in school, I had a huge 3’ x 2’ pic of the Guggenheim he’d just completed (in Bilboa, Spain) hanging over my desk. I know squat about Geography. I have a nephew in the Southwest who’ll prob be my phone-a-friend if I get a geo ques on ‘Millionaire’ & he’s, um, 6. If it weren’t for Frank Gehry, I wouldn’t even know where Bilboa, Spain was.

Anyway, a few years back I was actually able to see Mr. Gehry when he came here to MOCA, & there was this huge showing of his work, & models that he’d created that were never actually built. He’s just the most amazing & fascinating mind, I think. You can really get lost in his stuff.

Sooo, that brings us to my PhotoFriday pic. I was totally gonna take this pic last Friday & post it (I swear!). But, it was all drizzly/rainy, & so I just didn’t want to. I did go over to this building after work yesterday. It’s the Peter B. Lewis building, home of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. And it was designed by Mr. Gehry. So, here’s my Photo-Friday submission for (sorry, again) last Friday:
